Workforce Development for LED

What is CENLED?

The Centre for Local Economic Development (CENLED) is a national centre based at the University of Johannesburg (UJ). The main mission of CENLED is to build the capacity of Local Economic Development practitioners to professionalise their careers. CENLED’s short learning programmes aim to broaden and deepen the knowledge, understanding, insight and skills of LED managers and practitioners and others involved in LED-related activities.

The thinkubator is an innovation laboratory for economic development. The main information source of the thinkubator is an LED maturity assessment tool. This tool provides a practical way to rapidly assess (in just three hours) the state of maturity of a municipality or development organisation in the field of LED. It assesses strengths and weaknesses, and pinpoints learning priorities. LED practitioners are mentored in simulated real-life situations for the mentees to learn by doing.
