Ronald Richard Mears

Ronald Mears obtained a BComHons degree from the University of Potchefstroom in 1978 and continued to complete a Higher Education Diploma at UNISA in 1979. In 1985 he obtained an MCom degree from Rand Afrikaans University and finally completed a PhD in Economics at Vista University. He has published several scientific journals and chapters in books and presented numerous papers at local and international conferences. He currently holds the position of Professor in Economics, at the University of Johannesburg, where he wrote a study manual for Development Economics and Resource and Environmental Economics. Ronald is also the coordinator for the Taught Master’s Programme, research supervisor, supervisor for Master’s and PhD degrees and external examiner for PhD theses, among others.

Prior to his position at UJ, he worked at the Development Bank of Southern Africa as an Urban Economist and Project Leader. He conducted several study tours from 1996 to 2008, mostly to international destinations and focusing primarily on extensive research into urbanisation, migration and the environment. One of his community participation initiatives is the training of black estate agents in Economics and he is a member of the Economic Society of South Africa, the Economic History Society of Southern Africa, and the Africa Institute.
